Bluegrass
Codified in the 1940s by Bill Monroe and Earl Scruggs, bluegrass fused British Isles traditional ballads with African-American blues syncopation and banjo rhythms. Characterized by percussive mandolin chopping, blistering three-finger banjo picking, high lonesome vocal harmonies, and dynamic acoustic interplay.
